PAUL TUTHILL SCORES FIRST ALLISON TOP TEN AT SOUTH BOSTON
Washingtonville, N.Y. – Paul Tuthill, comes off a strong top ten finish in the Allison Legacy Touring Series race at South Boston last weekend that boosted him to ninth in series points.
“This was my first trip to South Boston,” admitted Tuthill. Practice times showed the New York teen in mid-pack. “It was loose so we made some changes and I felt all right about it, but it was still a little loose,” he reported. Time trials were about the same, so “we tightened it up a lot for the feature,” he said. In the feature, Tuthill commented that he “wasn’t going anywhere – going in it was good but in mid-corner it was tight and I could not get it to turn to set up any passes.”
Paul showed patience as he let the race develope and tried different lines to help the cars handling and get lap times back where they should be: “I waited to burn some gas off and let the car get loose. I tried everything and dialed in a LOT of rear brake to loosen it up,” he described. He would drive the car “ten or fifteen feet deeper than ever before, stab the brakes and get it to turn,” said Paul. “I bet I picked up at least two or three tenths and started picking people off.”
With the help of some attrition in front of him and his patience and skill in adapting to the car and track, Tuthill ended the day with a seventh-place finish that boosted him solidly into ninth place in points.
Paul’s next race is coming up fast: this weekend at Concord Motorsports Park in Concord, N.C. “Concord is another track I’ve never raced before,” he admits, describing the drive down as “we leave right after work at five in the afternoon, arrive about five in the morning and get a few hours of sleep, get up, race then drive back home and back to work Monday morning.” Paul hopes to build on his strong run at Dillon and have solid finishes on his first visit to these tracks.
