My Comments on the Race
Orange Country Speedway May 17, 2008
Hey everyone this week we visited Orange County Speedway in Rougemont N.C. The weather was beautiful, nice and sunny, 75 degrees, track was real nice too. We raced at Orange County once last year also so I felt pretty good going into this one knowing that I knew the track somewhat already. When we first went out for practice the car felt fast, a little tight couldn’t really get it to turn like I wanted it to, but we were still pretty fast. Made some adjustments for second practice which did not really make that much difference. After the second practice my crew chief and I talked about the car for awhile and decided to make some pretty serious changes for qualifying. So not really knowing how the car was going to be for my one lap I baby’ed it a little bit going into one and the car turned so much better. So I wheeled it down into 3 as hard as I could and came out with a 16.4 lap time which placed me 17th in the main event. The pole sitter ran a 15.9, so we knew we still had some work to do for the feature. Again did some decent changes for the feature, and went out there. At first the car was pretty good I was holding my own, faster then a couple people in front of me. The car still just would not turn in the middle of the corner though and the track tightening up for the night race definitely did not help us at all. So with an ok car I passed a couple cars, and made it up to about 12th. Then on about lap 35, the number 4 car got underneath me going into turn 1. So I gave him plenty of room, raced him clean, and we raced for about 5 to 6 laps just like that drag racing down the stretches. I ended up actually getting back by him on the outside and kept my 12th place finish, which was defiantly the highlight of the whole race for me. So with the car still in one piece and a 12th place finish, we weren’t too disappointed. My crew chief and I are going to change the entire set-up of the car this week and try something totally different for next week at tri-valley speedway. So make sure you check up and see if our changes made a difference. Thanks for reading.
